oh, but once you beat Cinnabar Gym, a new feature is added and it's fun!
and after the Elite 4, there's a whole bunch o crap you have to do before catching Mewtwo
The Elite 4 will also want to challenge you again, but make sure your Pokemon are in the 70's and 80's, they're way tougher
