Post Gran Turismo 5 Details Gleaned from Car & Driver Reply with quote

Car & Driver went to Japan to do a feature on Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and they got some details on GT5. Yamauchi seemed to feel that GT5 is a lot of work and doesn't want fans to expect too much because it would create too much work for his team. Boo hoo, Yamauchi.

"For Gran Turismo 1, one car was one day's work for one man," Yamauchi said. "For GT3, one car was one man's work for 30 days. For GT5, one car is one man's work for 180 days."

Due to this, it looks like we'll only be getting a small set of cars at release to be followed up by downloadable content so the game can get out of the door without waiting for all of the cars to be put into the game. We're all for downloadable content, but seriously? You guys can't model cars?

Finally, it looks like Yamauchi-san doesn't want to do car damage in the game because it would "double the work" for the physics and art teams. It's too bad Project Gotham Racing 3 and Forza 2 both have car damage and have the distinct difference of having been released. Damn, PGR4 might even beat GT5 out the door.

Get off your asses, Polyphony Digital. No more excuses. You can't preach about the power of the PS3 on one hand and then complain about having to spend the time to actually utilize it on the other.
