Civilization Comes To Consoles
Sid Meier's Civilization franchise is making the leap from PCs to consoles.
Civilization Revolution is the first Civilization game specifically designed for consoles and handhelds by developer Firaxis. Revolution will retain the series' focus of providing engrossing strategic play, while going heavier on action and "streamlining the experience," which apparently means leaving off some of the more time-consuming/tedious aspects of the PC game.
"Civilization Revolution is the game I've always wanted to make," said legendary designer Meier. "We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC."
Along with the single-player mode, Civ Rev will offer head-to-head and free-for-all matches online (with video and voice chat) as well as leaderboards, achievements, and downloadable content.
In other words, if you like strategy games, cancel all your plans for like a year after this game comes out in spring 2008. No specific platforms have been announced as of yet.
