well, he underestimated Obi-Wan, and got sliced in half
a bit of info, though, is that Maul survived, got half of his body machine, and hunted down Obi-Wan
He finnally found Kenobi when he was watching over Luke Skywalker as a kid
they fought, but then Maul truely died by getting stabbed through the head

he was probably used to the pain during his training and used the force to push him to the wall and then he climbed back up
he was also very used to starving and being parched so that's another fact
