Sony To Charge For PSN?
One of the main advantages of the PlayStation 3's online component is its price: It's free, man. Like, totally free. Like, no monthly payments to Microsoft for the pleasure of paying to play the game system we already bought.
The free-ness is a perk 360 owners would love, but, sadly, according Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations, the service might not remain priceless forever.
“Microsoft had a year jump on us for the launch and essentially we’re offering a lot of the same stuff... We’re not charging money for our service. That’s a key differentiating factor...Right now that’s our model. In time anything can change but right now we’re happy with it," Lempel told Geoff Keighley on the latest edition of Gametrailers’ Bonus Round podcast.
So there you have it: The price is the only thing seperating XboxLive from PSN, but the price may change in the future. Sounds like a fully worked out plan to us.
