Super Mario Galaxy slightly inspired by Rachet and Clank?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There sure has been a lot of news about Mario Galaxy lately hasn't there, specifically on the front page. We all know about the spherical planets and worlds on Super Mario Galaxy that Mario can walk around on am I correct? Well it seems that Ryan Schneider, the Marketing Director at Insomniac Games, a first party developer for Sony who created such games as Rachet and Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man has revealed that he believes this feature in Super Mario Galaxy was inspired by Rachet and Clank.

"There’s evidence all around us I think, of certain games that have borrowed from Ratchet and Clank," Schneider said. "One that we’re even extremely flattered by is Super Mario Galaxy, with their spherical worlds; we did spherical worlds in Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal."

"It would be amazing to think that Miyamoto-san thought that was so cool that he wanted to incorporate it into Mario Galaxy. Granted, he’s doing it in a different way, but it’s still a spherical world, so it’s flattering to see those sorts of things."

Now before you fanboys start lighting your pitchforks.... (lmao lighting pitchforks), he is not taking a stab at Nintendo, but rather just saying "it would be cool if Miyamoto did this". Now of course, we know that Super Mario 128 was shown off way before Rachet and Clank even existed and has been in development for a long time. Rachet and Clank also doesn't own the "spherical
world" concept so if you ask me, it's an attempt for a Sony company to steal a little bit of Nintendo's light by saying it was inspired by Mario Galaxy. ! If anything, you could say this guy is just a "fan" of Miyamoto's work.

I do want people to discuss what they think, but please don't start throwing around burning pitchforks.

Insomniac Games is also developing the new Rachet and Clank game: Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction for the Playstation 3.
