Kutaragi Steps Down
Ladies and gentlemen, Kutaragi has left the building.
Ken Kutaragi, longtime CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment and father of The PlayStation, is retiring.
Kutaragi almost single-handedly pushed gaming into the DVD era, and was instrumental in the development of the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PSP and PlayStation 3.
On November 30, 2006, Kaz Hirai replaced Kutaragi was as President of Sony Computer Entertainment. In addition to other management changes, Kutaragi was promoted to chairman of SCEI at that time. Kutaragi announced he was leaving his positions as CEO and chairman in April, and now he's gone. He'll stay on in an advisory role.
